Connecting bold ideas to resources.
The wonderful thing about language and words, after more than a few thousand years, is that you get to play with them when you create the name of a company. With Madquist I had a few ideas that resonated with what I wanted the business to do and accomplish.
The first idea was that I wanted to use some of my Scandinavian heritage to create the company. “Quist” shows up on the Swedish side. This tie to names shows up in Carlquist, Lindquist, Wahlquist, and other similar names. Quist means branch, so you could say, Carlquist might mean “Carl’s branch.” This is my unsophisticated and non-certified way of playing with it, and it will tie into what I’m saying later with Madquist.
You might already be following along and be saying to yourself, “Mad’s branch” or Mad’s line. Very good! So who is Mad? In the Danish sphere Mads is a derivative of Matthew or “gift of god.” Now that’s a good connection and direction for our discussion, but I’d like to table it a second.
Mad in the United States means angry. In the United Kingdom, it means insane, like “are you mad?” Meaning, you must be crazy to try that. Or, he’s gone mad, like a crazy dog or a person who is no longer in their right mind.
Sometimes people like prophets in the Bible or spiritual men and women throughout time have been thought to be crazy or out of their minds, even though they were gifts from God, like Christ, the Buddha, Mohammed, and others who took risks to declare their missions.
There are also people like entrepreneurs who take enormous risks because of the visions or ideas they have in their mind about what can be accomplished. These people are considered mad or crazy. Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Marie Curie, and others were told, “You can’t do that.”
I love scripture. I think all scripture provides insight into how the divine shows up in writing. Lao Tzu provides great insight in the Tao De Ching. The prophets of the Bible are traditional go to’s, but there are many to explore. I find this scripture in Ether 12:19 on point: “And there were many whose faith was so exceedingly strong, [who] truly saw with their eyes the things which they had beheld with an eye of faith.”
This principal ties into what Napoleon Hill studied and published in his book, Think and Grow Rich. He said,
“Our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no man is familiar, these ‘magnets’ attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.”
So bringing this all back together with Mads or Madquist, we are a company that is a branch of the human family that believes in the brokering of gifts from God or “by means with which no man is familiar.” If you are “Mad” or people tell you, you’re crazy to try your idea, but you can see it in your mind and just need helping to bring it to fruition, we want to work with you. If you can “answer prayers” and just don’t know where to direct your contributions and resources, we want to work with you.
